George’s Inc. of Springdale, a producer of poultry products and prepared foods, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Ozark Mountain Poultry Inc. of Rogers.
The companies will close on the deal in the fourth quarter, according to a news release. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
George’s ranked No. 7 on Arkansas Business’ most recent list of the state’s 75 largest private companies, reporting 2017 revenue of $1.1 billion. The family-owned, integrated poultry company has about 5,500 employees, more than 2,400 of which are in Arkansas.
OMP produces antibiotic free and non-GMO chicken products, servicing the retail and food service channels with its Forester Farmers Market brand. It has facilities throughout Arkansas, employs more than 1,800 and processes more than 1.2 million chickens per week. The company ranked No. 35 on the private companies list, with revenue of $332 million.
“I have known Gary George and the George family for 35 years,” Ed Fryar, founder of OMP, said in the release. “He is a person for whom I have tremendous admiration and respect. I think the acquisition of OMP will equally benefit George’s and the team members of OMP because our cultures fit. Additionally, it will enhance our position in the marketplace.”
Charles George, co-CEO of George’s, said the deal “further diversifies our portfolio, allowing us to grow in the retail segment with a trusted brand.”
Carl George, co-CEO of George’s, added, “The ability to provide today’s consumer with affordable antibiotic free and non-GMO poultry products is very important to our overall strategy.”
In November, George’s announced that it had acquired Campos Foods LLC from Lopez Foods Inc. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 85,000-SF Campos Foods plant in Caryville, Tennessee, employed 285 people, making fully cooked pork, beef and turkey products servicing the retail, food service and convenience store channels.
