Get to Know the Locals: The Barnett Family

2 min read

Kevin and Paige Barnett are raising their three children in Searcy and loving every aspect of the city. Kevin is a neonatologist at Unity Health, and Paige is an elementary art teacher at Harding Academy. Both were raised in Pocahontas and discovered their love for the city while attending Harding University for their undergraduate education. Last year, the Barnetts made a house in River Oaks their home.

What do you love most about River Oaks?

The golf course access, walkability, friendly neighbors and close proximity to restaurants and shops.

Why did you choose Searcy?

There are so many ways to plug in and meet people here, whether it be at church, school events or kids extracurricular activities. We love the small-town feel and the sense of community.

What has been a sweet surprise about Searcy since you moved to the community?

It’s always amazed us at how well-connected people are in the community. I feel like you never meet a stranger. If by chance you do, odds are they know someone you know.

Where do you enjoy spending your personal time in the city? Where can you be found on a Friday night? Saturday morning?

We love being so close to Harding University to enjoy concerts, ball games and fun activities. We also enjoy going out to eat with friends and family at many of the local restaurants like Mi Pueblito (Taco Tuesday or chicken fajitas) or Greek House (flatbreads, gyros and salads). Saturday mornings you can usually find us headed to a local bakery, getting coffee at Mr. Postman or Perk and Post, stopping in at our favorite flea market (Old Hippy Antiques), then off to the River Oaks golf course.

What small businesses or organizations in Searcy do you wish more people knew about?

Old Hippy Antiques and Doorframes always have great finds for unique pieces for the house or for gifts. Beats and Eats and the local farmers market are our go-tos in the summer. Good Measure Market is a wonderful local grocery store, and we enjoy local restaurants like Burrito Day and Soda Jerk. Mr. Postman is our favorite coffee shop and is a great gift shop.

Favorite time of the year in Searcy and why?

We enjoy every season in Searcy! In the spring, we enjoy Harding’s Spring Sing performances and their beautiful gardens. In the summer, we enjoy all the kids camps available and golfing, and in the fall we love cheering on our local football teams. The city feels so festive in the winter, when there are holiday lights all over town and everyone is bustling around. Searcy is truly a magical place to live year-round!
