MISSION

Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people. Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. SO athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment—on the playing field and in life. Special Olympics Health, made possible by the Golisano Foundation, and in the U.S. in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is creating a world where people with ID have every opportunity to be healthy.

Inclusive health means people with ID are able to take full advantage of the same health programs and services available to people who do not have ID. Currently, people with ID face significant challenges in accessing quality health care and obtaining opportunities that promote fitness and wellness, resulting in pronounced health disparities and reduced life expectancy. SO’s health programming focuses on improving the physical, social and emotional well-being of people with ID by increasing inclusion in health care, wellness and health systems for Special Olympics athletes and others with ID.

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

• In-Kind: Provide health education and screening materials for Healthy Athletes and Live Healthy events

• $5,000: Sponsor a Special Event for the Healthy Athletes

• $2,500 gifts include the donor’s name on a Bronze Medal recognition plate

• Become a year-round Partner for Inclusive Health: Choose your giving level

• Attend Charity Olive Hour: Oct. 19, live and silent auction at Next Level Events

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

• Volunteer at a Healthy Athletes screening event in any of the disciplines: Special Smiles, Strong Minds, Health Promotion, Healthy Hearing, FunFitness, Fit Feet, MedFest and Opening Eyes

• Volunteer to provide health education during local competitions events

• Host an Inclusive Health training at your hospital, clinic, classroom or organization – Special Olympics Arkansas offers free professional development surrounding the inclusive health movement
