Gonzalo Gebara, CEO of Walmart Canada
Gonzalo Gebara has been named president and CEO of Walmart Canada effective Jan. 30, pending work authorization, the company announced.
Gebara, who is currently the CEO of Walmart Chile, joined the company in 2000. Since then, he has held roles across finance, strategy, e-commerce, marketing and operations. He has worked with teams across multiple markets, including the U.S. and Argentina.
In his most recent position of the head of Walmart Chile, Gebara helped strengthen the company’s omnichannel capabilities.
Judith McKenna, president and CEO of Walmart International, called Gebara “an experienced retail leader with extensive knowledge across the industry and our business.”
“Gonzalo is ideally suited to lead Walmart Canada as it continues its journey to help even more Canadian families save money and live better,” McKenna said.
Gebara takes over for JP Suarez, who led Walmart Canada on an interim basis after the departure of CEO Horacio Barbeito six months ago. Barbeito left the company after three years to become president of clothing retailer Old Navy.
Walmart Canada operates more than 400 stores and employs more than 100,000.
