Goodwill Industries of Arkansas will launch a nationwide search to replace departing CEO and President Brian Itzkowitz, Chairman Mitch Chandler said Wednesday.
Itzkowitz, who was named Nonprofit Executive of the Year in 2013 by Arkansas Business, took paid leave two weeks ago.
The nonprofit is “in good hands,” Chandler said. Chief Operating Officer Brian Marsh will serve as interim CEO.
Chandler said Goodwill had not set a target date for hiring a CEO, but “it’ll be soon.”
He also wouldn’t say why Itzkowitz is leaving, calling it a “personnel” issue. But Chandler called this an “agreeable situation” and said the reason was not “untoward.”
Then he credited Itzkowitz and 800-plus employees for the nonprofit’s “tremendous growth” since Itzkowitz came on board in 2008. Goodwill of Arkansas’ annual revenue grew from $9 million to $30 million during that period, and from 15 locations to 43.
Itzkowitz was also elected chairman of the Goodwill Industries International board of directors in 2015.
Chandler said, based on his record with the organization, Itzkowitz has a “bright future.”
