Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday announced the appointment of Curtis Hitt as 17th Judicial District Court judge.
The 17th District is composed of Clay and Greene Counties.
Hitt’s appointment takes effect Jan. 1. He replaces Judge Dan Troy Stidham, who is retiring after 25 years on the bench.
Hitt has been an attorney for 28 years. He began his career as a deputy prosecuting attorney. In 2005, he opened his private practice in Paragould, where he has represented clients in civil litigation, family law, criminal law, estate planning, juvenile law and probate law.
Hitt earned his undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University and his juris doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. At A-State, he taught criminal law and the U.S. Constitution as an adjunct professor.
He has twice served as a special associate justice to the Arkansas Supreme Court and is a current member of the Arkansas Board of Law Examiners.
