Governor Picks Marty Ryall to Lead Division of Arkansas Heritage

1 min read

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has named Marty Ryall as the next director of the Division of Arkansas Heritage, replacing Jimmy Bryant.

Bryant, who has held the position since 2019, is retiring at the end of the month.

Ryall, a Star City native, is currently the director of legislative affairs at the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. He was appointed to that position in January. In that role, he represents the department to the legislature and in other government-related activities.

Prior to joining the department, Ryall was the director of governmental affairs at Arkansas PBS for seven years.

“I appreciate Jimmy Bryant’s service to our state and know that Marty is the perfect candidate to take up Jimmy’s role,” Sanders said in a statement. “Together, we will take Arkansas Heritage to the top.”

Ryall serves as a commissioner on the War Memorial Stadium Commission. He previously served on the Martin Luther King Commission. He holds a degree in international relations from Florida State University.

Ryall reports to Shea Lewis, who was named interim secretary of the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism earlier this month. Lewis was appointed to the position after the departure of Mike Mills, who was reportedly forced to resign as secretary this month after less than six months on the job.
