Governor’s Son Drops Suit Over Real Estate DealLock Icon

Asa Hutchinson III, the governor’s son, asked a Benton County judge to dismiss his lawsuit against a Springdale couple for allegedly reneging on an agreement to buy his home in Rogers.

Judge Brad Karren of the county’s second division dismissed the case without prejudice on July 23. Karren was one of five Benton County judges who had at least a look-see at the case before its dismissal.

Four previous judges recused from the case in the weeks after Hutchinson first filed his suit in early April. Of the six Benton County judges, only Tom Smith of Division 3 didn’t have the case cross his desk.

Hutchinson, who represented himself, had claimed that Shawn Paul and Lisa Haley Frenzel of Springdale signed an agreement to buy his home on Wimbledon Way in the Pinnacle Country Club subdivision for $550,000 on May 14. Hutchinson bought the 3,470-SF home for $480,000 in 2010.

The Frenzels later backed out of the deal and claimed it was because of a poor inspection report. Hutchinson said the claim was in “bad faith” because the couple had previously tried to back out of the deal, claiming unspecified inspection concerns.
