Did you notice that Grampa’s Catfish House in Sherwood, which closed in September, reopened last Tuesday?
You’ll recall that owners Nate and Denise Townsend put the Grampa’s building at 100 Shadow Oaks Drive in Sherwood up for sale last year.
Nate Townsend had told Whispers last fall that they chose to shrink their two-restaurant operation down to one, closing the Sherwood eatery in response to catfish shortages — the worst in his 42 years in business — and the economic recession.
However, in an abrupt change of plans, the duo closed their Grampa’s location on Stagecoach Road in Little Rock on Feb. 22 and reopened the Sherwood joint within two weeks. The Townsends hadn’t sold the building in Sherwood and still had equipment.
The Little Rock restaurant closed, Townsend said last week, because the building was sold and the new owner chose not to retain Grampa’s as a tenant. The Little Rock eatery reported $378,945 in food sales for 2011.
Besides the Sherwood location, Grampa’s has franchises operating in Hot Springs and Warner Robins, Ga.
