The Walton Family Foundation and the state Department of Agriculture have partnered on a pilot program that offers $15,000 grants to farmers in northwest Arkansas who are focused on growing more healthy food options.
The Arkansas Grown Grant program will provide funds to at least 30 farmers in Benton, Washington, Madison and Carroll counties who are increasing capacity for fruits and vegetables.
Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
- dedication to growing local food for sale to wholesale and commercial buyers
- demonstrated interest in increasing capacity to sell to wholesale buyers and distributors
- the ability to provide performance metrics on reports
- demonstrated need
- sustainability
