Sarah Catherine Gutierrez is the first Arkansan to be named to the Investment News 40 Under 40 list. Gutierrez was chosen from around 1,000 nominees by a panel of reporters, editors and other representatives of Investment News.

Gutierrez, a certified financial planner, chartered retirement plan specialist and registered investment adviser, is the founder and principal of Aptus Financial of Little Rock. Before launching Aptus Financial in 2011, Gutierrez worked as a research associate at Stephens Inc. Aptus Financial serves businesses — such as Arkansas Business Publishing Group — around the U.S. by managing 401(k) plans. Gutierrez has expertise in working with employer retirement plans and wellness programs, financial literacy education, cash management systems, women and investing, children and saving, physicians and young professionals.

“I am thrilled to have this personal recognition, but more importantly to have an opportunity to help advance the trend toward flat fees for retirement plan advice, financial planning and investment management,” Gutierrez said.

She was placed seventh on the 40 Under 40 list. Gutierrez serves two very different demographics at Aptus: She works with new graduates to eliminate massive loan burdens and with retirement plans. In addition to her paid services, she volunteers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where she teaches personal finance.

Gutierrez obtained her bachelor’s degree from Salem College and her master’s in public policy from Harvard University.
