Harding University in Searcy has hired Paul Maynard as chief growth and strategy officer, a new position.

Maynard brings 35 years of experience to the private Christian university’s executive leadership team. He will start in the new job Sept. 23, and will report directly to Harding President Mike Williams.

The new job will put Maynard in charge of all external outreach efforts, including admissions, advancement, alumni and parent relations, Harding’s American Studies Institute, and university communications and marketing.

According to a news release, his focus will be “to enhance Harding’s strategic vision, grow its revenues and broaden its impact.”

Williams, Harding’s president, said the university was thrilled to welcome a “principled and accomplished leader” into the new position. “Paul has tremendous leadership acumen,” Williams said. “We’re confident his diverse skill set will be instrumental in helping Harding achieve our ambitious aspirations.”

Maynard spent more than 20 years as a partner at Deloitte, the global professional services company, where he led some of the company’s largest and most complex accounts, the release said.

It quoted Charles Ganus, chairman of the university’s board of trustees: “The Harding family eagerly anticipates the invaluable contributions Paul will bring to our university. Paul is well known and well respected.”

Before the job at Deloitte, Maynard worked for the Arthur Andersen accounting firm for 15 years. He has also led fund-raising and nonprofit capital campaigns, and served on the finance committees of two presidential candidates and numerous U.S. Senate, U.S. House and Minnesota gubernatorial candidates, the release said.

Maynard is a Harding graduate, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting there in 1987 and 1988. He serves on the Harding College of Business Advisory Board. Maynard and his wife, Robin, have volunteered as co-chairs of the Harding University President’s Council. Their three children have all attended or are now attending Harding University.
