Privately-held grocery chain Harps Food Stores Inc. of Springdale announced that it has a deal to acquire Beachler’s Hometown Market of Prague, Oklahoma.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a news release, Harps said the grocery store east of Oklahoma City will close on April 9 and reopen under the Harps name on April 13. The current staff will be retained.
Owner Keith Beachler opened the 17,485-SF grocery store in 1978.
“Departing after such a lengthy period is difficult, but it is now time for me to retire,” he said in the release. “After reviewing several options, I feel that Harps is by far the best option for our great employees as well as an outstanding business partner for the city of Prague.”
Harps recently expanded to Louisiana and Mississippi with the purchase of The Markets, a 53-year-old family owned grocer based in Natchez, Mississippi.
It now operates 143 stores in Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana and Kansas and employs more than 7,200 people.
