Helena Harbor Receives $180K Grant

The Helena-West Helena Phillips County Port Authority (Helena Harbor) announced Friday that it has been awarded a $180,000 Arkansas Waterways Commission grant to improve water supply lines at the site in anticipation of a new water tower.

This funding complements the $257,110 in federal funding awarded earlier this month by the Delta Regional Authority for the 500,000-gallon water tower.

Engineering for the water supply lines will begin in later this fall, and the project will be put out for public bid in early 2018, according to a news release. 

According to John Edwards, general counsel and economic development officer for the harbor, said in a news release, “Funding for this project will be used to increase the size of existing water lines to support the current expansion of the Envirotech facility and for future customers.”

William Quiney, III, president of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority, praised the efforts of the commission and its new executive director, Deidre Smith, for their support.
