Petit Jean Mountain in Conway County
UPDATE: The Conway County Sheriff has confirmed to Arkansas Business that the remains are those of John Glasgow. The Glasgow family has scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. Thursday at Roger Glasgow’s office at the Wright Lindsey Jennings firm in Little Rock.
Original story:
Hikers on Petit Jean Mountain found human skeletal remains Wednesday afternoon, and Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith said the remains would be delivered to the Arkansas State Crime Lab on Thursday morning.
While Smith said it was too early to speculate on the identity, he confirmed that the only person reported missing in the area is John Glasgow, the Little Rock construction executive who disappeared more than seven years ago. He was legally declared dead in 2011.
Glasgow’s widow, Melinda Glasgow, and his brother, Roger Glasgow, had not heard about the find until contacted by Arkansas Business on Wednesday evening.
Smith said it was “clear the remains had been there for a while.” Two hikers called 911 to report the find about 4:48 p.m., he said.
Glasgow was last seen leaving his Little Rock home early on the morning of Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, and a tourist’s photo showed that by that afternoon his SUV was parked outside the Mather Lodge at Petit Jean State Park. No other sign of Glasgow has been found.
Smith said he didn’t know how long it would take to identify the remains. The Glasgow family provided police with hair, DNA and dental records after John disappeared.
