Whispers had heard some months back that the restaurateurs behind @ the Corner in downtown Little Rock might be the folks planning a restaurant at 2811 Kavanaugh Blvd. in Hillcrest, site of the former Cañon Grill.
Alas, an inquiry to sisters Helen Grace King and Leila King and their sister-in-law, Kamiya King, went unanswered. However, Leila King has applied with the city of Little Rock for a building permit for an interior renovation of the 2,200-SF space. The project is valued at $110,000.
You may recall that Little Rock restaurateur Daniel Bryant, who owns the building that housed Cañon Grill, told the Arkansas Times back in October that “the space has been leased to a new tenant who plans to offer ‘a full breakfast menu’ and more.”
Bryant described the tenant as “a group with existing successful restaurants in Little Rock,” but declined to name them.
Cañon Grill, a Tex-Mex restaurant and bar with a devoted clientele, has been officially closed since July 2023.
In addition to @ the Corner, the Kings also own and operate the restaurant Flora Jean’s at 433 E. Third St. in downtown Little Rock.
