Real median household income in Arkansas fell to $50,540 between 2019 and 2020, compared with $55,220 in 2019, a decline of 8.5%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Nationwide, real median household income fell 2.9% to $67,521 between 2019 and 2020. It was the first statistically significant decline in median household income since 2011, the aftermath of the Great Recession.
The decline in household income reflected last year’s recession, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
