HP Enterprise Services said Wednesday that it has signed a $190 million contract with the state Department of Human Services to manage Medicaid in Arkansas through a new information technology system.
The new interChange Medicaid Management Information System, or MMIS, will replace an older system and provide new features, including a website for Medicaid clients to access information about their accounts.
HP said it will continue to manage the old system until the new one goes live. The company’s seven-year contract with DHS includes a base year with six one-year options.
“We’re trying to provide more information to clients as they make decisions about their health care, and this is just one of those components,” DHS spokeswoman Amy Webb said.
The system includes features that allow provider enrollment, claims processing, reporting and audits. Other components give health care providers access to real-time claims adjudication through a secure website.
Arkansas will be the 17th state to use the interChange platform, the company said. HP Enterprise Services, which is part of publicly traded Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo Alto, California, is the fiscal agent or principal IT provider for Medicaid in 19 states.
Hewlett-Packard operates a regional development center at its customer service and tech support facility in Conway. The center provides support for its commercial and state health care portfolio across the country.
