Insurance Company Seeks Repayment from Springdale’s Elite Equipment, Alleging ArsonLock Icon

The Sarasota, Florida, insurance company wants to recoup the $700,000 it paid for damages stemming from an April 2023 fire at L&E Consulting LLC’s business in Springdale because the insurance company alleges the blaze was started by the LLC’s owner or someone at his direction.

National Trust filed a lawsuit last month against L&E Consulting, which operated as Elite Equipment.

Elite Equipment says on its Facebook page that it has more than 46 years of experience in the poultry industry. “We provide cutting edge poultry equipment and superior customer service,” it said.

On April 8, 2023, a building that the company used at 2757 E. Robinson Ave. burned, according to the lawsuit filed by Jonathan Morrow of Knight Nicastro MacKay of St. Louis. L&E Consulting filed a claim for damages, and the insurance company paid about $700,000, the lawsuit said.

But the lawsuit said that the insurance company’s investigation found that L&E Consulting’s “owner and representative, Tommy Goforth, or someone at his direction, started the subject fire,” the lawsuit said.

The insurance company said in the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville, that it is entitled to recover the money it paid.

Goforth isn’t named as a defendant in the case and he didn’t return messages from Whispers. L&E Consulting had not filed a response to the lawsuit as of Tuesday morning.

The Springdale Fire Department said last week the fire was under investigation and the case has been handed over to the Springdale Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
