Jacksonport Museum Opens New Exhibit

1 min read

The Jacksonport State Park Museum in Newport was scheduled to open a new exhibit on Saturday, “The Jacksonport Collection Calamity,” according to the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism.

The exhibit presents artifacts from the museum’s collection in a way that lets visitors follow the discovery trail to match the artifacts with stories from Jackson County history.

“Several artifacts featured in the exhibit have never been seen by the public,” the department said. “In addition, the rare Thomas Todd Tunstall Bowie knife will be on display. Presented to the founder of Jacksonport in 1833 by Resin Bowie himself, this unique artifact will return to Jacksonport through a generous loan from the Saunders Museum of Berryville.”

The museum is at 205 Avenue St. in Newport. Admission is free. For more information, contact Angela Gibbs at (870) 523-22601 or Angela.Gibbs@Arkansas.gov.
