Jeffery Gardner, the former CEO of Windstream Holdings Inc. of Little Rock, has been named CEO of Monitronics International, the home security alarm monitoring company based in Dallas.
Gardner will succeed Michael Haislip on Sept. 10, according to an announcement Tuesday by Ascent Capital Group Inc., the publicly traded company that owns Monitronics.
“I am thrilled to welcome Jeff to the executive management team at Monitronics,” said Bill Fitzgerald, chairman and CEO of Ascent Capital. “Jeff brings a tremendous skill set as a leader in the telecommunications industry with a focus on relevant financial and operational experiences. His understanding of subscriber focused operating businesses, expertise in building companies both organically and through acquisition, and strong financial acumen will significantly benefit the Monitronics business as we capitalize on the growth opportunities we have in front of us.
“I would like to thank Mike Haislip for his dedication and leadership over the years and we are grateful for his contributions to the company’s success. We look forward to his continued guidance as he works with Jeff through the transition.”
Gardner unexpectedly resigned as CEO of Windstream in December, saying he and the publicly traded telecom’s board of directors agreed that “a change in perspective” was needed “to accelerate the pace of change” at the company and to “more effectively respond to the rapidly evolving needs of our customers.”
He was the first CEO of Windstream, which was spun out of Alltel Corp. in 2006. He previously worked for 360 Communications, which Alltel acquire in 1998.
