Barbara Johnson, vice president for academic affairs at Arkansas Tech University, announced Wednesday that she is recommending Jeffrey Cass as the next dean for the ATU College of Arts and Humanities.

If her recommendation is confirmed by the ATU Board of Trustees at its next meeting on Dec. 19, Cass will begin his duties as dean in January.

Cass is a professor of English at the University of Houston-Victoria in Texas. He has served on the UHV faculty since 2012, including four years as provost and vice president for academic affairs.

His previous administrative experience also includes service as dean of the University of Louisiana-Monroe College of Arts and Sciences and as associate provost at Texas A&M International University.

Cass began his teaching career in 1988 at Laredo Community College in Texas.
