Job Openings Ratio Remains High in Arkansas

1 min read

One measure of the tightness of labor markets is the number of job openings per unemployed person, economist Michael Pakko noted recently on his arkansaseconomist.com blog.

The national ratio has moved down from 2.0 in early 2022 to only 1.5 in July, as the chart shows. “Arkansas, on the other hand, has seen a surge in 2023, reaching a peak of 2.7 job openings per unemployed person in May. The July reading is 2.3,” said Pakko, chief economist and state economic forecaster at the Arkansas Economic Development Institute at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
