John French Promoted to EVP at Southern Bancorp

Southern Bancorp Bank has promoted John French to executive vice president of Risk and Operations.

He will report directly to CFO Chris Wewers and be responsible for managing the community development financial institution’s risk management and compliance divisions, as well as loan and deposit operations.

French has led Southern’s risk management and compliance departments as a senior vice president since 2006.

He has more than 30 years of banking experience and has held executive management roles at multiple Arkansas financial institutions, including senior commercial examiner and financial analyst for the Arkansas State Bank Department.

French received his bachelor’s degree in economics and business from Hendrix College in 1987. He has also attended the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University and the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard University.

French is a past member of the Arkadelphia Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and chairman of the Government Committee, a past director and treasurer of the Clark County United Way, and was previously active in the Clark County Industrial Council and the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce.

He is currently a member of the Arkadelphia Noon Rotary Club.
