Dr. John F. Rians, a fellowship-trained psychiatrist, has been appointed as the medical director and supervising physician of The Stepping Stone, the adult inpatient psychiatric unit at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Rians is also accepting children and adolescents for outpatient treatment at the White River Health System Behavioral Health Clinic in Batesville. Rians earned his medical degree from Texas A&M University Health Science Center. He completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Matt Burrous, an advanced practiced registered nurse, has joined Sparks Clinic Lung Center in Fort Smith, where he will assist pulmonologist and sleep specialist Dr. Arturo Meade. Burrous earned his degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock in December.
Dr. Scott Cooper of Rogers, a surgeon with Mercy Clinic Orthopedics, has been elected president of the Arkansas Medical Society.

Polly Davenport has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer of CHI St. Vincent in Little Rock. She will also continue to serve as president of CHI St. Vincent Infirmary and CHI St. Vincent North in Sherwood. Davenport, who joined CHI St. Vincent in January 2015, was also recently named the CHI Star Award recipient for the southeast division.
Mary Nell Plumlee, a physical therapist assistant at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Fayetteville, was one of six finalists for HealthSouth’s Outstanding Employee Achievement Award out of more than 27,000 employees companywide. Plumlee was one of the original employees of HealthSouth in Fayetteville, which will mark its 25th anniversary later this year.
