Jonesboro Awarded $878K for Trolley-Style Hybrid Buses

1 min read

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Jonesboro a grant of $878,584 to purchase five low- or no-emission trolley-style buses.

The grant includes a 15% match by the city.

“This is a victory for the long-term future of Jonesboro,” Mayor Harold Copenhaver said in a news release. “Hybrid vehicles will become critical in the not too distant future, and we want to improve not only the quality but the appearance of our JET fleet.”

The city applied for the grant last spring. Out of 530 applicants nationwide, 150 cities received funds, according to the release.
