Jonesboro Sun Changes Layout Systems

1 min read

Readers may have noticed a new look to The Jonesboro Sun, but they may not realize that the newspaper has also transitioned to a new layout system.

The Sun, which is owned by Paxton Media Group of Paducah, Ky., formerly had its own designers lay out the daily newspaper on-site in Jonesboro. Now designers in a central office in Paducah lay out The Sun, as well as the pages of other Paxton newspapers.

The Sun’s editor, Chris Wessel, declined to discuss any staffing changes that resulted from sending the design work out of state.

In designing the newspaper daily, staffers from The Sun interact with the designers long distance, but the process isn’t much different from in the past, Wessel said.

Deadlines haven’t changed appreciably and the transition was smooth, he said.

Aesthetic changes to The Sun included adding a yellow sun to the paper’s masthead and incorporating new fonts and more color throughout the publication, Wessel said.
