Greg Dee, a meteorologist who appeared on KARK-TV, Channel 4, and KLRT-TV, Channel 16, announced on air Thursday morning that he will be leaving to take a job in Cleveland.
Dee started at KARK in May 2008 and moved from a weekend spot to the morning show. He also helped launch Fox16 Good Day — the station’s first morning program.
Dee said in a press release after the announcement that he was excited about the move, which would also bring him closer to family.
“My time in Little Rock has been the most rewarding of my life,” Dee said. “Little Rock has proved to be the best city that I’ve ever lived in. I will greatly miss the people of the state, they’re warm hearts and amazing ability to help each other when disasters and storms strike.”
Dee will be filling in for the chief meteorologist at WKYC, the city’s NBC affiliate, before moving to a weekend spot. The Cleveland-Akron television market is ranked 19th in the country; Little Rock-Pine Bluff is ranked No. 56.
Dee’s last broadcast on KLRT will be Friday and then a special edition of KARK 4 Today on Super Bowl Sunday.
News Director Austin Kellerman announced Dee’s departure in an email to staff on Wednesday.
“In his 6 years with us, Greg has grown tremendously. He started out as a role player and grew into the poster boy for our station’s morning shows. That’s a big role – and he earned it every step of the way,” Kellerman said. “I’m not sure anyone works harder than Greg. He made our stations better and forced all of us to pick up our social media game.”
Earlier this month, political reporter David Goins said he was leaving the city for a position at WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas. Dallas is the fifth-ranked television market in the country.
Goins, a Houston native, joined KLRT in 2005 and covered politics and the state Capitol. He also hosted “Capitol View,” which aired on Sunday mornings.
Goins received a Radio Television Digital News Association Edward R. Murrow award in 2007.
