KATV-TV, Channel 7, Hires New Assistant News Director

2 min read

KATV-TV, Channel 7, has found someone to fill one of its open positions. On Feb. 14, Nick Genty began as the assistant news director, replacing Alan Faulkner, who left the position in January.

Before beginning at KATV, Genty worked at KTHV-TV, Channel 11, for 21 years, first as a news photographer and then as an assistant manager and executive producer. The position at KATV, he said, just found him.

"I’m always a believer that news finds you," Genty said. "This job just kind of found me, and it was just a really good opportunity for me. And it was a tough, tough decision." Genty said he went "back and forth" before deciding that it was time for a new opportunity.

He also said that, while his old position at KTHV was similar to his new role at KATV, there were some differences.

"At Channel 11, I was the executive producer and ran the assignment desk at the same time. And here I’m the assistant news director. I still help on the assignment desk but they’ve got people here that handle that part of it. Here, I’m more of an overseer of the day-to-day content of what goes out."

Genty also said that his position at KATV would give him a little bit more freedom in terms of being able to step away and break from the desk and not be as tied to it.

In January, KATV also lost Chief Engineer Allen Fine, and earlier this month News Director Randy Dixon announced that he would be leaving the station as well.
