Kinetic by Windstream, a business unit of Windstream Holdings Inc. of Little Rock, has announced the activation of its high-speed fiber gigabit service in the Poyen area.
The development is part of an $8.2 million Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) project that connected fiber internet to 2,100 homes and businesses in the area. The project is part of Kinetic’s multi-year $2 billion plan to provide internet to areas that have historically been underserved or unserved.
Kinetic also services other towns in Grant County, such as Leola, Prattsville and Sheridan, as well as Tull, where construction was completed in August.
Before this new build, some internet speeds in the area ranged between 15-245 megabits per second. With Kinetic’s new multi-gigabit fiber, Poyen residents can experience up to one gigabit per second in speed, which is a 66% increase from 15 megabits.
Kinetic hosted a public ribbon cutting Sept. 11 at the Poyen Ballpark to celebrate the activation.
“The completion of this Kinetic Rural Digital Opportunity Fund expansion marks an incredible milestone for Arkansans in central Arkansas,” James Pitts, Kinetic local operations manager, said in a press release. “Combined with the initial public-private partnership with the State of Arkansas in 2023, Kinetic has connected almost 10,000 homes and small businesses to fiber internet with the support of our local communities and state officials.”
The Kinetic brand is expected to be the go-forward consumer brand for the merged Uniti-Windstream.
