LaDonna Johnston Named Interim CEO of Unity Health

1 min read

Unity Health on Thursday announced that LaDonna Johnston has been named interim president and CEO of the Searcy-based health care provider.

She assumes the leadership role formerly held by Mark Amox. A news release from Unity didn’t offer details on his departure. Amox had been president and CEO since November 2022.

Johnston, a registered nurse, has more than 30 years of experience at Unity Health, with past roles including vice president of patient services and administrator of Unity Health-Newport.

“LaDonna’s history, experience, and true passion for our organization will be invaluable as we continue to provide quality care to all of our patients,” Janet Hines, chair of the Unity Health board of directors, said in a statement. “Her dedication to this organization and the communities we serve will continue to guide our commitment to quality, compassionate care.”

Amox told Arkansas Business in February 2023 that Unity had a strong balance sheet during the pandemic, which allowed the health system to invest nearly $40 million to reopen a hospital in Jacksonville formerly owned by Allegiance Health Management Inc. of Shreveport. The hospital is the fourth in Unity’s system, which spans eight counties.

Unity also has 28 family practice clinics. It employs more than 2,300 people.

In a statement, Johnston said, “My goal for the organization is to stay focused on the care of our patients ensuring safe, quality care. I plan to continue the tradition of excellence our organization has upheld for decades.”
