Ask Patrick Schueck what business executive he looks up to most, and the answer is fairly obvious — his dad.
But Schueck’s decision to never steer too far from the backbone his father, Tom Schueck, built at Lexicon Inc. has kept the construction and steel fabrication company poised for growth.
“Dad started Lexicon with $300 in the bank and a pregnant wife,” Schueck said. “He always put his people first and worked tirelessly to build Lexicon into a corporation that is the foundation of what we have become today.”
That foundation has supported explosive growth at Lexicon’s family of companies since Patrick Schueck took over as president and CEO in 2020.
Lexicon’s annual revenue now exceeds $1 billion, and this year, it moved up to the 17th-largest private company in the state on Arkansas Business’ annual ranking of private companies, with more than 2,000 employees.
Schueck came up through the ranks after graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1997. His resume includes stints at Lockwood Greene as a design engineer, Lexicon Industrial Contractors as a project engineer, and Prospect Steel as a superintendent and project manager.
Schueck, who has survived multiple bouts with cancer, is integrally involved in the community, serving on the Arkansas Children’s Hospital board of directors, the Little Rock Regional Chamber board’s executive committee and the Little Rock Airport Commission, among others.
His firm’s employees — whom Schueck says are the secret to Lexicon’s success — remain a central focus to the present and future of the company, which isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon.
“Our immediate plan for the future,” Shueck said, “is to put people, quality, safety and innovation first, and for Lexicon to methodically look at future opportunities to grow with acquisitions that match our culture.”
