Arkansas Business’ annual list of the state’s top hotels is ranked by taxable revenue reported to the advertising and promotions commissions in cities that levy a local-option tax on hotels, motels and restaurants.

As usual, The Peabody in Little Rock tops the list based on revenue in 2011, which was down slightly to $16.16 million. But it is important to note that Little Rock does not separate taxable room revenue from the equally taxable revenue collected by hotel food services, including restaurants.
Fayetteville also reports combined revenue for hotels with restaurants, skewing the results for hotels in those cities.
Arkansas Business this year chose to combine the taxable room and food receipts for Wyndham Riverfront Little Rock, which is actually in downtown North Little Rock, where A&P taxes are reported separately. More than other hotels on the list, The Wyndham competes directly with the big hotels in downtown Little Rock, whose reported revenue includes food.
The Wyndham ranks fifth on this year’s list with combined taxable revenue of almost $8.5 million; its room revenue alone was $3.87 million, which would have ranked it No. 12.
