1 min read

Southern Arkansas University Engineering has received a $20,000 grant from Lockheed Martin Corp. of Bethesda, Maryland. The contribution brings the total amount raised for SAU Engineering to more than $350,000, the university said.

Lockheed Martin’s donation will support the purchase of new equipment and technology. The defense contractor said it is also committed to other training opportunities for SAU students, including internships.

“Lockheed Martin’s strategic partnership with SAU helps local students pursue an engineering degree while gaining practical experience supporting our manufacturing programs in Camden,” Colin Sterling, director of Lockheed Martin’s Camden operations facility, said. “Recruiting regional talent is important to us and we’re pleased to join SAU in expanding south Arkansas’ high-tech workforce.”

SAU Engineering, which launched fall 2013, had enrollment of 172 students in the fall. It is the only engineering program in south Arkansas.

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide.
