Log Cabin Democrat Changes Won’t Reduce Staff Numbers

1 min read

The recent departure of the assistant managing editor of the Log Cabin Democrat apparently won’t result in a shrinking newsroom.

Brandon Riddle, who was promoted to the position in March, announced on Facebook late last month that he was taking an online reporting job at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Riddle’s promotion at the Log Cabin came at the same time as several staffing changes at the newspaper. The editor position was phased out as a standalone role, and Kelly Sublett was hired for the new job of vice president of audience.

Publisher Zach Ahrens said in an email to Arkansas Business that he doesn’t have plans to reduce the size of the newsroom. He said he will likely find a replacement for Riddle and hire one other general assignment reporter.

“Our belief at Log Cabin Media is that success will not come from reducing the news content or the number of people who create it,” Ahrens said.
