Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) and Lyon College recently signed an articulation agreement to facilitate a transfer pathway for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Under the agreement, students will begin their academic journey in the traditional pre-nursing pathway at Lyon College, transition to ASUN to complete the RN program, and then return to Lyon College to finish their bachelor’s degree.
Through this approach, the college aims to ensure a comprehensive educational experience that produces well-qualified nursing professionals for the state.
Johnny Moore, chancellor of ASUN, said in a news release that this articulation agreement “embodies our dedication to fostering educational excellence and collaboration. By partnering with Lyon College, we are creating a robust pathway that not only meets the needs of our students but also addresses the critical demand for skilled nurses in our health care system.”
Lyon College said its pre- and post-nursing pathways are designed to meet the growing demand for skilled nursing professionals. Students participate in a curriculum focused on critical thinking, clinical skills and compassionate patient care.
“Through this partnership, we are enhancing the academic and professional journey of nursing students,” Typhanie Myers, provost at ASUN, said in the release. “The streamlined pathway allows for a seamless transition and integration of diverse educational experiences, ultimately producing graduates ready to excel in their nursing careers and contribute meaningfully to the health care field.”
Pre-nursing students who participate will remain on the Lyon College campus the entire four years of the program and have full access to the resources provided to Lyon students.
“The pre-nursing pathway is designed to offer flexibility and support for our students,” Becky Le, director of nursing education at Lyon College said in the release. “This structure not only enriches their educational journey but also prepares them to meet the diverse challenges of the health care industry.”
