Mark Williams has been named dean of the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Williams succeeds founding dean Jim Raczynski, who stepped down Dec. 31. Jay Gandy, professor and chair of the Environmental & Occupational Health Department, served as interim dean.
Williams’ career in public health spans more than 30 years. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and chapters. Williams also served as professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy & Management at Florida International University, where he held the positions of associate dean of academic affairs in 2012 and interim dean from 2013 to 2014. Williams has also served in academic roles at the University of Texas School of Public Health, the University of St. Thomas and the University of Rhode Island. He also worked at NOVA Research Co. and Affiliated Systems Corp. Williams has conducted research on HIV transmission and prevention.
Williams received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 1976 and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in 1979. He also holds a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Lai-Monté Hunter has been promoted to dean of campus life and diversity at Lyon College in Batesville. Hunter’s new position will include the added responsibility of safety and emergency management.
Cody Decker has been promoted to interim vice chancellor of student affairs for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Decker will serve a one-year term as interim vice chancellor while a national search is conducted for a permanent vice chancellor.
Jenna Wylie has been named head women’s golf coach at the UA Little Rock. Wylie took her new position as of June 24 following the retirement of Bridgett Norwood after 26 years with the program.
