Mayville Engineering Co. Inc. announced Tuesday an $8.8 million capacity expansion for its Heber Springs facility that will create 70 new jobs over four years.
The company said it will continue to invest in leading edge equipment and process improvements as well as add new blue chip, original equipment manufacturers to its customer list. Equipment investment is already underway.
Bob Kamphuis, chairman, president, and CEO said in a news release that the company considered alternative sites and states for the expansion but chose to expand in Heber Springs because of “the availability of a highly skilled manufacturing workforce, growth in regional demand, and potential further market growth opportunities.”
“It is wonderful to realize the growth of our Heber Springs operation as a direct result of our employees’ world class performance and MEC’s confidence in our long-term ability to create value by investing in leading edge equipment, added David Higgs, executive vice president of fabrication operations. “Our employee shareholders commitment to performance excellence in safety, quality, delivery and productivity has earned our team the opportunity for this expansion.”
Gov. Asa Hutchinson added, “Arkansas workers are second to none, and I strongly believe that MEC will find Arkansas has the business climate the company needs to navigate its future.”
MEC qualified for the Advantage Arkansas income tax credit, which can offset up to 50% of a company’s income tax liability each year, and the Tax Back program, which provides sales and use tax refunds on the purchase of building materials and taxable machinery.
Ginger Harper, president and CEO of the Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce, praised the company for its involvement in the community.
MEC has operated its 190,000-SF facility in Heber Springs since acquiring Defiance Metal Products Company in 2018. The facility currently employs about 200.
Founded in 1945 in Mayville, Wisconsin, MEC provides a broad range of prototyping and tooling, production fabrication, coating, assembly, and aftermarket services. It has 20 facilities in seven states.
