It looks like the urgent care chain MedExpress of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, isn’t slowing down its march across Arkansas.
You might have heard that it plans to open centers in Fort Smith and Rogers later this month, but did you know that three more are expected to open this summer in Benton, Russellville and Hot Springs?
Those additions come on the heels of opening three centers in northwest Arkansas and one in Conway last year. That would give the firm a total of nine locations in the state when all are seeing patients.
“The model has been very well received throughout the entire country, but particularly in Arkansas,” said Dr. Robert Maha, chief operating officer and chief medical officer for MedExpress. “All four of the centers we’ve opened have been warmly welcomed by the community and by patients.”
As you know, doctors, retailers and hospitals have been opening urgent care facilities or walk-in clinics to lure patients with non-life-threatening injuries away from hospital emergency rooms.
Urgent care centers are promoted as providing treatment that is both less expensive and faster than ERs.
Maha said MedExpress is open 12 hours a day, seven days a week and in addition to offering urgent care, it also provides a number of other services such as help to quit smoking and sports physicals.
Maha said each location is about 5,000 SF, but he declined to release the construction costs tied to the projects.
Public records, however, show the renovation projects in Russellville and Rogers have a construction value of $800,000 each and are being handled by Milestone Construction of Springdale. The remodel work in Fort Smith has a value of $450,000 and is being done by Petree Construction of Fort Smith.
