Psychiatric hospital The BridgeWay has named Megan Miller its new CEO.
Miller succeeds Sherrie James, who led the North Little Rock hospital for nearly three years before becoming CEO of Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System in Pine Bluff last fall.
Miller, a licensed clinical social worker, began her career in 2003 as a mental health paraprofessional and joined The BridgeWay as director of clinical services in 2012, the hospital said in a news release.
The hospital offers programs for acute mental health, serious mental health and substance use disorder treatment for adults. It also offers behavioral health care for adolescents and children.
Miller takes over amid rising mental health issues in the U.S. tied to stress, isolation and other effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic created a sharp unprecedented change in our business practices,” Miller said in the release. “It is an excellent example of the resilience of the employees of The BridgeWay. Mental health professionals, like others, were overwhelmed by the pandemic, but we recognized that mental health symptoms were surging. Our services continued to be needed more than ever.”
Miller, an Arkansas native, holds a master’s in social work from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor’s in biology from Lyon College.
“I always knew that I wanted to be in a helping profession,” Miller said. “I began my career as a social worker doing individual and family work. That underpinning has given me the advantage of a clinical perspective to add to the business needs of the market.”
