Methodist Family Health Pays $14K In Back Wages After Labor Department Investigation

1 min read

Methodist Family Health Inc. of Little Rock has paid $14,082 in back wages after a U.S. investigation determined the company illegally fired a worker who was on family medical leave.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found that the provider of child psychiatric and behavioral services violated the Family Medical Leave Act.

The worker had qualified for 12 weeks of protected leave for a serious medical condition and parental leave after their child’s birth, but Methodist Family Health fired the worker after nine weeks of leave, the Labor Department said in a news release.

Methodist Family Health “erroneously limited the worker’s amount of protected leave” based on the combined use of leave between the worker and the worker’s spouse, who is also employed by the company, the release said.
