During its January board meeting, Metroplan awarded seven cities and one county transportation alternative program funding, totaling $2.3 million, to design or construct alternative transportation projects around central Arkansas.
Based in Little Rock, Metroplan is the long-range planning organization for central Arkansas.
The projects include:
- Austin was awarded $320,000 to construct a 14-foot trail from Highway 38 to Austin City Park
- Bryant was awarded $320,000 to construct a 12-foot trail from Alcoa Park to Mills Park
- Cabot was awarded $320,000 to construct a two mile, 14-foot trail from Cabot High School to Kerr Station Park
- Little Rock was awarded $320,000 to design a portion of the Jonesboro Children’s Trail
- Pulaski County was awarded $320,000 to construct a separated path for bikes and pedestrians on 3.7 miles of Old Hwy. 161
- Shannon Hills was awarded $281,000 to construct a 12-foot wide trail from Tall Pine Drive to a proposed SW Trail
- Sherwood was awarded $320,000 to construct a sidewalk connecting neighborhoods to the proposed Regional Greenways Route
- Ward was awarded $176,000 for its Safe Routes to School program
Metroplan was also awarded a $913,690 federal grant to support road safety upgrades in November.
