The mixed-drink permit applications to the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Division contain a particularly intriguing entry: Soerke Peters for Mezzaluna Pasteria at 215 NW A St. in Bentonville.
Why intriguing? Well, there’s a Mezzaluna Pasteria helmed by Chef Soerke Peters in Pacific Grove, California, on the Monterey Peninsula. The restaurant and the chef have something of a regional reputation.
And Pacific Grove is definitely an affluent part of the country, with a median household income of $92,980, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The website of the Bentonville Chamber of Commerce has an entry for Mezzaluna Pasteria LLC at 215 NW A St., describing it as a new restaurant downtown having an Italian pasta concept. It says it’s the second location of the Pacific Grove restaurant and that the estimated time of opening was September. That hasn’t happened, but Arkansas Business readers well know that everything takes longer than you think it will.
We’ve been unable to connect with Chef Peters, but the website of Mezzaluna Pasteria in Pacific Grove describes him as “a leader in sustainability in the Monterey peninsula. Sourcing only the freshest local ingredients. Organic and farm-to-fork are not just words in his kitchen. He was awarded the ocean hero award from the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey for his responsible sourcing of seafood and preserving our oceans for generations to come.”
The restaurant touts its pasta, mozzarella and gelato “made fresh daily.” Is he bringing that culinary ethos to downtown Bentonville? Stay tuned.
