Michael Caplan May Soon Leave KTHVLock Icon

1 min read

TV news pros aren’t famous for keeping secrets, so talk has been circulating about the imminent departure of Michael Caplan as president and general manager of KTHV, Channel 11 in Little Rock.

Caplan, who is 49 and took over managing the station in 2011, is said to be leaving in a few weeks or sooner over what two sources described as health issues.

He returned a phone call to Arkansas Business on Thursday but couldn’t speak on the record. But Little Rock television insiders said the departure has been in the works for some time, and that an announcement is likely when Tegna Inc., the Gannett Co. Inc. spinoff that owns the station, names a successor.

Update: THV announced on Wednesday, April 11, that Marty Schack will be its new general manager.

Caplan, who took a leave of absence last year, is a graduate of Louisiana State University-Alexandria, and led a major rebranding of the Little Rock CBS affiliate, dubbing it THV11. Before joining Channel 11, he spent nine years in South Carolina overseeing WBTW-TV, the Morning News daily newspaper in Florence and four weekly publications.
