1 min read

Michelle Hargis Wolfe has been hired as the University of Arkansas’ first chief people officer.

Wolfe’s first day on the job is set for Feb. 1. She joins UA after nearly 20 years with Walmart Inc. of Bentonville, where she oversaw supplier onboarding, master data management strategy and operations, and realty construction contract and project management.

Before then, she led human resources operations in Walmart division including finance, global shared services and international logistics.

Hargis Wolfe, who holds a Juris Doctor degree, also has more than a decade of legal counsel experience in various civil rights and employment-related topics.

“Michelle has a long track record supporting large and complex organizations, making data-based decisions, leading transformational change and contributing to a strong culture,” Ann Bordelon, UA’s executive vice chancellor for finance and administration, said in a statement. “Her expertise and experience will enrich our university, and ultimately further our efforts to become an employer of choice.”

Hargis Wolfe, a Little Rock native, earned her bachelor’s at the University of Arkansas. She received her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Denver.

She has served on various boards, including a five-year stint with the Arkansas Research Alliance and her current role as the board secretary for Horses for Healing NWA.

A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the University of Arkansas at Little Rock had hired Wolfe Hargis.
