Have you heard about a would-be redevelopment that could result in a new hotel for downtown Little Rock?
The property in question is the 12-story Boyle Building at 501 Main St., a historic property built in 1909 as the State Bank Building. A hotel banner under consideration is Aloft.
Our insider reports that more than a few hurdles will have to be overcome to make the possibility a financial reality.
The Boyle Building also has been mentioned as a potential piece of the Little Rock Technology Park puzzle if the project lands in the Main Street creative corridor.
You might recall the Boyle Building is one of four adjoining buildings owned by Main Street Lofts LLC. The venture is led by Little Rock lawyer Wooten Epes, former head of the Arkansas Development Finance Authority, and Scott Reed of Portland, Ore.
You also might recall that a couple blocks to the east, a hotel project is in the works.
McKibbon Hotel Group Inc. of Gainesville, Ga., will develop its fourth hotel project in downtown Little Rock: a 115-room Hilton Homewood Suites.
The project is part of the redevelopment of the Arkla Plaza property, once home to Arkla Gas Co. offices but more recently home to the Office of Child Support Enforcement.
The state agency vacated Arkla Plaza and migrated to the Mann on Main development, a block north of the Boyle Building.
