New Weatherman, Hayden Nix, Joins KARK

“A cold, wild wind will come,” Johnny Cash used to forecast in “I Still Miss Someone.” In “Big River,” he sang that he “taught the clouds to cover up a clear blue sky.”

And soon another product of Kingsland, Cash’s birthplace, will soon be waxing lyrical about Arkansas’ weather.

Hayden Nix, who says his fascination with the weather was kindled in the tiny Cleveland County town, is returning to Arkansas as the weekend meteorologist at KARK-TV, Channel 4. A graduate of Rison High School and Mississippi State University, Nix is coming by way of KTXS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Abilene, Texas.

“It’s a joy and comfort to be able to say I’m coming home,” Nix said. “Being closer to family means a lot to both my wife and myself. I love weather. It is my passion, and I also love to serve people.”

The hiring was announced by Austin Kellerman, news director at the Little Rock NBC affiliate.

“Hayden brings us a wealth of knowledge about the area and a true love for Arkansas,” Kellerman said, adding that Nix will play a vital role on the Arkansas Storm Team, which uses the combined resources of KARK and its sister station, Fox 16.

Kellerman said Nix will join the lineup sometime in February.
