Well, that didn’t take long.
Nick Genty, who in February joined KATV-TV, Channel 7, after 25 years at KTHV-TV, Channel 11, has been promoted to news director of the ABC affiliate.
Genty joined Allbritton Communications Co.-owned KATV as assistant news director, replacing Alan Faulkner, who left the position in January. Genty announced his promotion to news director via Twitter on April 22, saying, "I have been given the job to lead the best News Team in the market. Thanks to all for the support."
Genty replaces Randy Dixon, who left KATV in February after 31 years.
In announcing Genty’s promotion, KATV General Manager Mark Rose described him as having "a wealth of knowledge and experience of local television news gathering and newsroom operations." Rose said that Genty’s experience, local knowledge and contacts influenced his decision to promote Genty to the news director position.
KATV has maintained an edge over Gannett Co.-owned KTHV in February TV ratings from Nielsen Media Research. The most recent numbers showed KATV winning two of the three evening time slots, 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., while KTHV came in on top at 10 p.m.
Genty will be searching for his replacement as assistant news director.
