The Congress for the New Urbanism, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., announced that it’s accepting applications from northwest Arkansas communities for nearly $500,000 in free planning services.
The organization is seeking applicants for its Legacy Program, which provides technical assistance to help communities design solutions for real-world challenges like revitalizing main streets, improving walkability, expanding housing options or managing rapid growth, according to a press release.
Each project will receive $100,000 to $125,000 in services with the local communities contributing $7,500 toward travel expenses for the design teams.
Previous projects have included a mixed-use walkable hub in Savannah, Georgia; restoration of an avenue in Louisville, Kentucky; and creation of a market with shipping containers in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Applications are due by Aug. 29 and should be submitted to jmccurdy@rogersar.gov and maddenplanningllc@gmail.com.
The nonprofit is hosting its annual meeting in northwest Arkansas in 2026. The five-day conference is expected to bring more than 1,500 architects, urban planners, policy experts and real estate professionals to the region.
