Number of US Accountants & Auditors Totals 1.3 Million

The number of accountants and auditors in the United States totaled 1.32 million in 2021, according to Statista, a provider of market and consumer data based in Hamburg, Germany.

“While most companies employ in-house accountants to maintain financial records, to guarantee independence audits are generally conducted by third-party consultancy firms. By far the largest external accountancy and audit firms in the United States are the Big Four — PwC, Deloitte, EY and KPMG,” Statista noted.
